SAMS 2022 Review

From April 10 - 12, the 11th edition of Software Asset Management Strategies (SAMS for short) took place in Berlin. Complion was there with Stephanie Riesebeck, Frank Salz and Felix Baran. Read about our impressions below.

Format & Visitors

As last year, SAMS was held as a hybrid event (online & presence). After the lifting of the pandemic restrictions and the experience from last year that the exchange among each other "online" only works conditionally well, the majority of participants took advantage of the first opportunity to participate in person. With around 300 participants on site and an average of 50-100 participants via the online platform, SAMS was again well attended this year. We were pleased to see many acquaintances again on site and also to meet some new faces.

Topics & Agenda

Looking at the agenda, there was a lot to report and exchange. More than 10 hours of program on both days made the conference a real marathon event. As in the past, the content was dominated by traditional SAM topics. However, new trends and developments, especially in the SaaS and ITAM areas, were also discussed in the World Cafés.

It is clear here that the expansion of SAM activities from classic on-premise operation to cloud-based services is increasingly playing a role and will certainly continue to be the focus of discussion in the future.

SAMS Award & Winner

Day 1 concluded with the presentation of the SAMS Awards 2022 for successfully implemented software asset management projects in the past year. According to the jury's proposal, the software metering project of Axel Springer, the license management implementation of Vitesco's spin-off, and the group license balance with >260 companies of Volkswagen SAM GmbH were up for election for the first three places. In the end, Axel Springer came out on top, ahead of VW SAM GmbH and Vitesco. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all three winners.

Preview

The next SAMS will take place in less than 12 months, namely already at the end of February 2023. Until then, we will certainly master exciting projects and experience one or the other change in software and cloud providers. We are already looking forward to the next exchange. Of course, we hope to see one or the other again at other events in the meantime.
