Employee Portrait: Jan Philipsen

My name is Jan Philipsen, I'm 26 years old and I currently live in Hamburg. Originally I come from a small village near Flensburg, but then I moved to Braunschweig to study business informatics.

How did you come to Complion?

As a Master's student, I was approached by my current work colleague Tobias to see if I would like to work as a student trainee at Complion. As a working student, I was immediately able to take on smaller tasks in current projects and contribute to the Cyber Security Competence Center (CSCC). I liked the activities and working independently in the team so much that I simply stayed on straight after my studies and it was definitely the right decision.

What are your main focuses at Complion?

As a working student at the CSCC, I did editorial work in the field of cybersecurity, and this is still one of my tasks. In the meantime, however, I also appreciate the great variety that I experience in the project business - it never gets boring.

I currently spend a lot of time on projects - I work as a consultant for various large companies. This can mean, for example, that I am responsible for outsourcing a large part of the IT with my colleagues or planning and implementing software asset management (SAM) at a strategic level in the company.

I also take on internal tasks for the Complion team. For example, I was involved in the planning of our team event in Lübeck.

What does your day-to-day work at Complion look like?

I have the privilege of being able to choose where I work. When I have a lot of conference calls, I tend to work from home. On the other days, I work together with my colleagues from northern Germany at Ruby Hans near the Elbphilharmonie.

In my day-to-day work, I regularly prepare Power Point presentations that I present to clients together with my team. For the CSCC, I research current IT weaknesses and prepare them in such a way that they are presented precisely and are easy to understand for the participants.

What are you passionate about outside of Complion?

Since my studies, I have been interested in the topic of how to learn successfully. Together with a friend from university, I have a YouTube channel on which we want to inspire students and pupils to learn. When I'm not thinking up new video ideas, producing or editing videos, sport is my balance to work. In summer, you can find me after work on my bike on the Deichrunde in Hamburg. In winter, I head to Austria for skiing and the Alpine panorama. Otherwise, I really enjoy the coastal air, especially on the beaches in my home country.
