Internship at COMPLION: report
Hello Lukas, please tell us something about your internship with us.
My name is Lukas Marx, I am originally from Wolfsburg and I am studying Data and Information Science at the TH Köln. As part of my studies, I decided to start a five-month internship at COMPLION to gain practical experience in the field of consulting and to apply what I have learned from my previous studies.
How did you find out about this internship program and why did you choose it?
I found out about the opportunity for an internship through my university. COMPLION had presented itself at an event for the upcoming student internship phase. Since I am interested in information security and data protection and also like to learn about new topics, I knew I should apply quickly.
Can you give us an overview of the tasks you had during the internship?
In the course of my internship, I had the opportunity to actively participate in various projects. My main area of responsibility included the compilation of relevant sources according to professional clusters, their evaluation and assessment. Subsequently, I created a dynamic database, which was further updated and documented. In addition, I was responsible for updating a guide and creating a FAQ for the internal time tracking app TimeOn. Furthermore, I conducted research for the Cyber Security Competence Center.
How did you feel about working together as a team?
During my internship, I experienced a pleasant and equal cooperation with my colleagues and superiors. I could always count on the helpfulness of my colleagues, who provided me with valuable feedback. In addition, I was fortunate to have a mentor who gave me valuable advice and helped me with my personal and professional development.
What insights did you gain from the internship that will help you in your professional development?
I have gained numerous insights into this. One of them is the importance of well-structured project management. Working with experienced and competent consultants has also made it clear to me how essential successful communication is in order to achieve common goals. Without a doubt, the internship has had a significant impact on my career planning by helping me to better understand my skills and interests and to define my professional direction more clearly.
What would you recommend to other students or graduates considering a similar internship?
An internship is a crucial phase for professional orientation. Students and graduates should use this opportunity to develop personally and professionally. Be committed, curious and open to new experiences - this way you will get the most out of your internship and gain important experience for your future. My internship at COMPLION was particularly valuable because I was able to learn how to organize myself, how to structure things and how to improve my communication skills.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your internship experience?
I would like to emphasize that an internship is not only an opportunity to develop skills, but also a time of growth and discovery. The experience and knowledge gained will definitely stay with me.
